BRS is currently engaged in a cost of risk study for Arizona Department of Transportation to be released later this year. The objective of the study is to determine the annual cost of risk to ADOT and compare it with that of other state transportation agencies.
The study evaluates self-insured costs, excess insurance premiums, first dollar insurance premiums, brokerage fees, claims handling fees, administration costs, legal costs, and safety/loss control costs. Costs are being tracked by type of coverage (such as workers' compensation, general liability, etc.), so that the major drivers affecting total cost can be more easily identified.
